Co-Founder Julia Margo wins Criminal Justice Alliance Award

November 28th, 2025

We are delighted that our co-founder and deputy CEO Julia Margo won Outstanding Individual: Lived Experience at the Criminal Justice Alliance Awards 2025.

The judges said: “Julia Margo has transformed personal trauma into extraordinary advocacy for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. After enduring eight years of coercion, violence, and a fractured family court process, she not only secured protection for her children but channelled her lived experience into systemic reform. She has mentored over 100 victims navigating the criminal and family courts, shared her story on national media, and developed pioneering training for judges, reaching more than 300 members of the judiciary.

“Julia’s work ensures that survivor voices are central to legal decision-making, fostering trauma-informed practice across criminal and family courts. Julia’s impact extends to national policy change. She co-founded the charity fair Hearing to improve victim experiences, piloted trauma informed training with a regional police force, and played a key role in revising the Equal Treatment Bench Book. She also helped draft an amendment to the Victims and Courts Bill, now approved, limiting parental responsibility for parents who have been convicted of child sexual abuse, a landmark reform informed directly by her lived experience.”

We are incredibly proud of Julia and her exceptional achievements.
